The Selfish Giant’s Garden

The Selfish Giant's Garden

On Monday, October 2 through Friday, October 6, 2023 Delta Children’s Museum will present Bits N Pieces Puppet Theaters “The Selfish Giant’s Garden” at six different schools in the Mississippi Delta.  The schools will be announced closer to production time.   Puppeteer and storyteller Jerry Bickel uses marionettes to bring the story of “The Selfish Giant’s Garden” to life on stage.  These marionettes are made of wood, plaster and fabric.  Some of the marionettes are “French” with strings, and some are “Czech” with wires instead.  A traditional classic marionette stage with full scenery and lighting complimented the performance.  In addition to the performance Jerry and Holli also present an illustrated demonstration of the marionette’s historical development.  During the performance the puppeteers allows the audience to see the “manipulation technique” of the puppets and the “backstage” workings of the theatre.  Bits ‘N Pieces Theatre has been creating original musical productions adapted from classic children’s literature for more than 40 years.  The company has been on twelve international tours to Asia and Europe and created puppets for 16 productions, including 52 giant puppets.  This will be a free admission production courtesy of the sponsors of the Residency:  the Steve Azar St. Cecilia Foundation, the Greenville Junior Auxiliary and the Mississippi Arts Commission.  A great Teacher Study Guide was available to each of the schools with previews of “The Selfish Giant’s Garden” available at www.PuppetWorld.com.
