A Mime Is a Terrible Thing to Waste

A Mime is a Terrible Thing to Waste

On Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at 9:00 and 11:00 am Patricia Carreras will present “A Mime is a Terrible Thing to Waste” in E. E. Bass Auditorium. Patty performs five silent stories that use Body, Imagination and Concentration.  Pre-reading skills are silently introduced as words fly by the audience as Title Cards.  The program is made possible by donations from the Steve Azar St. Cecilia Foundation and the Mississippi Arts Commission.  Patty Carreras is an independent professional touring artist.  A contemporary actor, Carreras owns her own storytelling company.  The one woman show company tours with a variety of shows – puppets, mime and storytelling with live music and song.  Visual arts comes to life in these multifaceted productions creating a multi arts experience for all ages.  Each summer, Patty as Charlie Chapline Mime comes alive for tens of thousands of visitors at the Anchorage Street Fair in AR.  People everywhere are always mesmerized at Patty’s ability to not only personify her characters with hilarious antics and puppetry but are also astounded at her stature like ability to hold a pose.  Patricia also offers programs that connect to specific school curriculum – whether it is story building and literacy, or Math, history, or science – Patricia has a performance for every grade level.  She was trained as a Wolf Trap Teaching Artist in drama and dance and at the Lincoln Institute for Anesthetic Education. Her performances and workshops entertain as they teach, opening minds to new ways of learning while warming hearts.  The program helps audience use Abstract Thinking to understand story lines and characters.  This highly entertaining program helps audiences unlock the power of Imagination.  The program is appropriate for all ages with an emphasis on Pre-K thru 3rd grade.  Reservations for the program may be made by calling the Greenville Arts Council at (662) 332-2246.  For additional information, please contact Dr. Lee Engel at 662-378-8645.
